Firing Order Listing

Thanks to this forum I learned the firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 on my 272 Y-block. The firing order does not appear on the intake manifold, nor did I ever find it listed anywhere in the 1955 Ford Car Shop Manual. It must be in there...am I blind?

The manual does plainly show the firing order for the 6-cylinder.


OOPS...I just looked again...found it on Specifications page 336!

If you're leaning over the right side fender looking at the distributor & plug wires on top...

The image says '54 to '59 but it's good for any of the '54 to '64 Y-blocks. 239 to 312.

I am in the process of changing my ignition system. I just came in from making up, and putting labels on my spark plug wires.

Yes it's in the shop manual but it's also in this handy little booklet...along with LOTS of other specs. Ford Form no. 7202-55. I have the same booklet for other years (1954, 1958, 1961). They come up on ebay sometimes. Getcha one.

Yes it's in the shop manual but it's also in this handy little booklet...along with LOTS of other specs. Ford Form no. 7202-55. I have the same booklet for other years (1954, 1958, 1961). They come up on ebay sometimes. Getcha one.
