is there a special combination of twist and turns to removing and especially returning spare tires to the fender wells?

Let the air out of the tire, then install wheel assembly into the well and reinflate tire.

and....getting it back out then?
This advice above is UNREAL!!
Fix the fender!! The only reason why tires would need to be deflated or lug nut studs need to be modified is because someone 'butchered' the well installation job to start with! Do folks really think that original fender wells needed to have the tire deflated first?
.
Well you should have went with the buy 4 get 2 free, goodyear coupon.

Brent I checked the dimensions of the wheel wells to your posted thumbnail and it looks the same. If someone modified the fenders for wheel wells, they did a very good job. Now did the car come from the factory with those fenders, probably not as the braces are bolted to the frame, not riveted. I tried a wheel and tire of the same size but not Firestone and it fit fine, went in and was able to remove it it fully inflated. I think the problem is the Firestone (Coker) tires. Not anxious to buy six tires, they are not very old.
