Fake 'R' code Galaxie?

1963 Super Torque Ford - Sales Brochure

Is the vin stamped on the frame rail in front of the right side front body mount on 64s as it is on 57s?

Mine is in the same spot, gotta scrape some crud off it usually, but that is the acid test and it has to match the vin plate.

I saw the worst R code '64 Ford on eBay. A totally clapped out hulk, rotted to heck too. IIRC it went for $5k.

I did look up some other '64 Galaxies and it seems that the location of the trim tag and orientation of the VIN tag changed to what what's shown in the pictures. This actually COULD actually be correct and authentic. I haven't accused anyone of anything but certainly when a single letter in a VIN code means up to a 100% price difference or tens of thousands of dollars, I'm always suspicious.

Frankly I'd rather have a car with an acknowledged engine swap to clone a more expensive option than pay really big bucks for one character in some flimsy pieces of metal.

For some reason it can be tough to get anyone to tell you (closely) where the numbers can be validated on the frame. In my state an out of state title or bill of sale requires a VIN inspection. If there is any reason to explore further, they send you to the State Highway Patrol, and they have a shop that can even determine if a fender has been replaced. You can wind up with your car confiscated, and out all your money.

I have a 57 Ford, and my tag is on the door too. The new rivits...that paint looks pretty good, so maybe it was simply removed for painting.

If one has to actually know and willing to chase it down, I would start here -

EDIT -

The participants in the above MESSAGE BOARD know the FE front to back. There has to be someone there that can either answer the question or point you in the right direction.

There was a 427 GALAXIE REGISTRY but I cannot come across it now. Maybe FACEBOOK?

There is a lot of fraud going on and even some sneak by outfits like MECUM.

EDIT - (YES, ANOTHER) -

Case In Point -

This photo shows as a supposed 427 production release -

This Custom 2-door Sedan R-code is by far the rarest of the 1964 (factory produced) 427/4spd cars, w/less than 15 built. 1964 R-code Galaxies – hundreds built. 1964 Galaxie “Lightweight” – 100 built.

The BUBBLE HOOD was only used on the 427HR, not LR. The LOW RISER was released for street driven cars and the 427 HI-RISER for race. And there is no provision for FRONTAL AIR. Is it a true 427 car or is it a counterfeit?

... features racing graphics and a fiberglass high-rise hood with rear air intakes.

... uh ...

The hood bubble (necessary to cover HI-RISE CYL HEAD DESIGN) rear vents are meant to exhaust hot engine compartment heat. The air is delivered to the carbs via a frontal air intake system(s) (there were two styles).

The HX (large case COM - LINC) AT was a DUAL RANGE 3/SPD.

Supposedly (have to verify), only the 1964 FAIRLANE THUNDERBOLT got the HX. The 1964 FORD GALAXIE 500 LIGHTWEIGHT R-CODE got a mid-case  MERC-O-MATIC .

CORRECTION - The DUAL RANGE MID-CASE SIZE was ID'd as MX.
