Before I take off the clean out round plate on the oil pan, is there a gasket there? It looks like it but can't tell if it's copper or felt. What am I getting into? Any tricks/
Thanks,
Stu

There is a gasket inside and outside the pan. I don't think they are available any more, so most people use RTV.

Hmmm... The Parts CD only shows one, on the inside. Not my recollection.

did mine today strangly enough,2 needed and I made them from gasket material ,one inside one outside , the pan all now painted and looks good , cheers jim.

inside you have the metal plate with the bolts ...under that is a gasket pushed against the inside of the pan ....outside the second gasket is pushed against the outside of the pan by the plate ,hope that makes sense ,I did mine with the engine out and pan off as part of an engine makeover . good luck ,cheers jim.

With a new rebuild and gaskets mine leaked as soon as I poured the oil in. I suggest, unless your surfaces are immaculate, that you include sealant on the mating surfaces. It was a lot of unnecessary work to pull apart, clean and put back together ...

I plan to remove the clean out plate/cover when I change the oil and not remove the pan. Can I do this from under the truck?
Thanks,

the plate and outside gasket will come off ,not sure if the ring with the bolts in will pull through the hole ,as I said I did mine with the pan off,if you don't disturb the inner ring and gasket it should all pull together o.k ,put some goo on the new outer gasket , cheers jim.

Are the inside nuts welded or attached to the inside ring or is the ring threaded? Once I take of the outside plate off I don't want loose nuts/bolts in the pan.
Thanks!
