Event insurance

Good luck to you with J.C. Taylor - they are one of the ones referenced when Tony suggested "We will insure you as long as you don't make a claim against us". I don't make this statement lightly - but rather from past experience. Best of luck to you if you decide to continue using them. For your sake and that of your club, I hope you don't have to make a claim!

If you were to become a MARC region the insurance should be available to you to cover your events. At least that is the way it has been for 35 years,
Ken

Hi Ken,
Happy Thanksgiving !
My understanding is that MARC's insurance policy does not cover a club member who did not pay his MARC dues that year, or if someone's date trips on an extension cord and sues.
Do I understand it correctly?

We have a parade in my town each Fourth of July that has everything from steam engines and floats to old cars to tractors. We insure it with Lloyd's of London. The rates are reasonable and you do not have to be a member of anything.

Mike, I'm afraid I didn't make myself clear in my first post. What I should have said was look into insuring your club on a policy of your own year around. You may find that a 12 month policy including any special events doesn't cost any more than a policy for just one special event. Maybe it's $500 per year, as an example. If you have 50 members that's $10 each per year and when it's your policy all you have to do is call for a certificate of insurance.
A few years ago MAFCA had some kind of disagreement with J.C. Taylor and MAFCA canceled the insurance and left all of the chapters uninsured. Our club went to Hagerty and bought a policy for about $250.00 per year.

If a member forgot to pay his dues he could possibly qualify as a volunteer if he is helping out at a meet. The law suit will probably be against the region and not him personally. It should be covered.
First of all there must be negligence and it has to be proven to be negligent. If someone trips over an extension cord it is an accident???
If she sues then she must prove negligence if not possible then the club did nothing wrong and she should have picked up her feet.
Remember all club members are insured that is why the Illinois region has always had all members also become members of MARC. Where else can you get a two million dollar policy for $38. dollars. This is cheap insurance.
If all regions go out and pay $300. X180 regions = $54,000.00 This is why our club did this for us back in the seventies as it cost the club about $8000 per year. Quite a savings over each region buying their own, especially for the little regions who canot afford it.
We have for 35 years had very few claims and we have run very safe meets. My hat is off to all of our members for that,
Ken
