Event insurance

We almost had to cancel our event due to the time it took to get a certificate of insurance from MARC.

6 WEEKS, yes 6 WEEKS to get a piece of paper that as a region in good standing we are entitled to receive.

As the newly elected Director/President of the region I swear if I could could come up with money making events on a consistent basis to pay for insurance, we would drop the national club in a second.

This is nonsense!

The insurance is needed by the reqiest of the site owners. They want to be covered if some *** stubs his toe on one of the cars and sues the owner of the event site.

I understand the limits of the insturance, that it is just for events that include just members of the national club. The national club will not insure events that allow non members to show cars at the same show. I understand that they do not want, or cannot, insure the region or the host site from vendors or liquor sales.

We have had done this same exact type of "show", an all A show, for our members since 1966 and the last two years it has been a nighmare to get the insurance certificate.

Just wanted to add that I remember a few years ago I would send in the information about an event and within 24 hours not only have a copy in my hand via fax, but a copy was faxed to the property owner by MARC.

You might inquire from MARC an explanation of the reason for such delays. and give us an update as to the response you get.

Maybe you should contact some of the insurance vendors- Hagerty, J.C. Taylor, etc. - and discuss your concerns with them. You may be surprised what you can get, what it covers, and how little it may cost for you local club. It may be within your budget and the service would be much better. Please let us know what you find out.

It's about $500.00 an event, we just don't have the money.

Mike THIS IS THE ISSUE With the National that we are fighting NOW... This is the problem with current bod and its issues, started by the Past President this is a serious problem after 35 years.....call me

MIKE, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FINE OUT, we are wanting to sponsor a spring swap meet in our little community, BUT, we cannot get the insurance worked out with MARC, event insurance here is about $ 315.00, that makes it just about a trade off for the spaces we sell, not worth having SWAP when insurance eats up all the profit for club, Bruce Johnson of River & Rail A's MARC

Unfortunately you're screwed, the liability policy that MARC has, ONLY covers what happens to and by National Members.

If you want to have a member only swap meet like at a national meet, you are covered. If you want to invite the general public, too bad, so sad, no coverage. You can have a show with just members (MARC calls it a display) you're covered. If you invite other car owners they must provide 1 million dollars of liability coverage before you apply for the Certificate from MARC.

For just a display of region members cars, only the secretary of the national club needs to sign off and contact the insurance company. In the past we were allowed to contact the insurance company directly as Directors of MARC regions.

This IS the reason we have been asking for vote for the TOP 3 on your ballot, this nonsense must stop!! there is NO reason for this what so ever. Frank Pollack came up with this and has so far discriminated this policy to 6 clubs and now yours... this is a serious issue that is absurd! Anyone can call me or write for more information on this

At whatever type of event that you contemplate on holding.....Do Not make any mention of any type of "race". No matter how slow it is. insurance companys do not like that word. Any timed event to them, means liability. They get nervous even if you mention "competition" in your application. Even a spark plug race using old heads on a bench or table causes problems.

We quite doing everything that has to do with money, like swap meets, because of the cost of insurance and California Franchise Tax Board requirements. Body body under stands that part of something is better than all of nothing.

This is an issue we are working on for the National Meet in San Diego next year.
The swap meet uses MARC members as vendors, but what about the general public (other hotal guests?) that want to look? We are still working it.

OK, the problem was with communication with the National Club. It appears that the event was approved but we did not know about it until we called back that last week. We assumed they would let us know as soon as it was approved.

Good luck to the rest of you!

Hi Guys
This may be a dumb question, But
Why can't you have an invantional swap or meet where , in my mind
each person that comes is already insured.

The venue has insurance to cover there customers(which you are).

During the summer we have these in this area a couple of times a week.

Our independent club (400+ members) has 7 events per year around Northern Ohio and Western PA. We get liability insurance for these events through J.C Taylor and it costs us approx $1,000 per year to cover all those events. Don't like to pay it, but can't afford not to.

There is a collection of car clubs representing different interests in the four corners area that banded together several years ago just for the purpose of getting event insurance at a reasonable rate. Since most events use public venues, proof of insurance is required.

If you are a MARC region you already have insurance by paying your dues. The problem is that the National BOD (Board of Directors) is stopping Certificates to those regions asking for them for parts swaps, parades, and car shows.
They should let the insurance company do what they have done for 35 years and handle the insurance.
You should not have to spend that $1000. if you are a MARC Region.

If you were to become a MARC region the insurance should be available to you to cover your events. At least that is the way it has been for 35 years,
Ken
