You can't beat Evaporust. I have use it on many items from parts to chrome pieces to tools, and it comes through every time. I recently purchased some Model A tools from members and on ebay. Soaking and a little bit of wire brush does wonders. Pictures show the results. Should they be painted or raw steel?

What is the active ingredient of Evaporust? We don't have it here but I'm sure there is something similar. Is it Phosphoric Acid???

Not phosphoric acid.

No?? Then what?
There are plenty of tannin based rust converters about that turn rust into a stable, inert layer of black stuff that can be painted over or anything. But it converts the rust, not removes it.

It is a form of ethylenediaminetetraacetate, an iron chelating agent. Check out the Evaporust website for information.

after a while of useing it will get a brownish film on it, that a brass brush takes off easily. works best when it is warmed

I've never seen it - where do you get it??

Harbor Freight carries it. I pick some up when I get those 20% off coupons.

Picture 1: My evaporust derusting station (for small parts)
Picture 2: My fender stripping/derusting station (much more work!)

W.C. Fields, the renowned alcoholic drunk who feared the negative effects of drinking water, drank a 1920's equivalent of Evap-o-rust daily, to help counter the evil effects of drinking water.

So with that kind of endorsement, I look forward to eventually using it on my next de-rusting project.
