Emergency Brake Rods

I'm attempting to complete installation of emergency brakes on '29 Roadster. Can someone confirm what the proper rod length should be from the Emergency Handle to Cross Shaft.

The car came with a right side mounted handle and 20-3/4" rod mounted to the cross shaft (yoke one end). There were no emergency brake rods or shoes when I purchased the car.

I've installed shoes and standard 41-1/2" brake rods. With the clevis on the brake rod screwed all the way in (bottomed out), it appears rods are about 1" too long, or the cross shaft to handle rod is too long (incorrect one was on the car).

I've noticed in Mike's catalogue, that in addition to the 20-3/4" rod (yoke one end), there is also a 18-3/4" rod (yoked both ends), both listed for 1929. Before I source a 18-3/4" rod, I'd like confirmation that this is the proper rod for the '29 roadster.

Thanks in advance for any guidance. I'm a newbie, just learning the ropes.

Bergy,

I looked in the Judging Standards and could not find any info on the emergency handle to cross shaft rod. This does not mean it is not there, just that I couldn't find it. However, looking in the new Bratton's catalog I found this:

1928 till July '29 used the 20 3/4 inch rod with eye on one end.

July '29 till end used the 18 3/4 inch rod with the yoke on each end.

Do you know what approx. month in '29 your "A" is? Is everything else
in your emergency brake system up to specs? Hope this helps?!?:)

Thanks guys for the confirmation on the need for the shorter, double yoked rod.

Not exactly sure of my month of mfgr., but based on engine # it was April, but based on other items it appears car was put together later in year. Don't know the history of the car, but it was a project in progress when I got it.
