Emergency brake return spring

OK, I give up! How do you put the emergency brake return spring on the lever at the backing plate? It looks to me that it needs to get tightened 1/2 turn to hook on the lever. Is that right.

We use a screwdriver modified with a little notch in the end (tip) to be able to grab the spring and pull it back to latch it onto the arm.

I just finished a brake job for a club member and did this very job two days ago. I bent a coat hanger to have a small tight hook to grab the spring arm and pull it over the parking brake arm. I made a loop on the other end of the wire to hold it. It was pretty easy with the right tool.:D

If you search it has been gone over many times. I believe I posted pictures of my tools last go around.

If you have the hub off when you do it, temporarily remove the pin between the emergency brake arm and the semi-circular brake link. Then the arm can over-travel about 45 degrees and you don't have to rotate the spring as far to hook it on.

Well, I got them on!! I think the wife learned some new words in the process. I used Toms trick of the wire and also took the moon shaped thing inside apart. What a battle, but I won!! Thanks for the info. Also, I am not a computer wiz but I went to the search thread and was able to get what I wanted from there. These computers can be very helpful if one knows what to do on it. My computer is female with PMS every day and does what it wants to , not what I want it to. Oh well, I'm learning to live with it!
