Electric - "Alt Exciter" switch and light

>>>That wire labeled alt exciter doesn't even run to firewall forward>>>

Check to see if a wire is connected to the alternator's exciter terminal. Then try to trace to its other end.

Turns out it is a one wire alternator, so as far as I can tell... no exciter terminal.

Maybe it originally was for a 3-wire exciter. Now sounds like the other end is simply grounded somewhere. So it's just a light switch. Might come in handy sometime depending on where the lamp is located. 8^)

Is this a Delco 10SI alternator ? In the 10SI there is a diode trio that filters the signal going back to the indicator bulb if the three legs on this trio do not match ( one leg shorted or open) then the indicator light will remain lite and ultimately drain the battery this can be tested with an ohm meter checking polarity. The former owner maybe had an issue with the battery draining and installed the switch. I am sure other alternator's use A variance of the same design.
