sold a model a part this afternoon for 600. ebay only took 90.

What a deal!

in the meantime, you can sell a car for 19. worth under 10k

nothing makes sense anymore!

no more parts selling on ebay for me.

15% seller fee and they'll send you a 1099 for all you've sold during the year. How do they stay in business? I'd rather sell for $400 local than hassle shipping anything.

I sold an item on Ebay and shipped it via USPS at buyer's request. USPS allows $ 100 insurance. The item disappeared while in transit. Ebay took the funds from my bank's checking account for the item. I responded to ebay that I lost the ability to sale it to someone else and the sale amount. I have stopped selling on Ebay

Yes, they take fees out of the shipping cost too. I quit trying to sell anything on eBay. The final straw was I sold a functional electronic golf cart controller with no returns clearly marked in the listing. The buyer hooked it up wrong and burned it up, and claimed it was defective. So he filed a claim to get his money back. eBay took the funds from me to reimburse him, so I was out the money and the part.

It’s an auction site that has a far reach. We complain here regularly about auction site fees for cars and parts when it’s in person. How is this different.

I fail to see the complaint, it’s a side hustle for you and you have no overhead.

Never received a tax form from eBay or others, and I sell above the threshold. Of course the truth shows it’s been delayed each year since adoption.

Actual facts are helpful here.

Is the seller fee also applied to the shipping cost?

yeah and they post a crazy shipping cost. and yes, its going to Bammi!

Hitman- it isnt different, but I havent sold parts on epay in several yrs. guess what? I wont be selling anymore either.

so much for a fair break.

Im actually complaining and laughing at the same time. I was shocked and not much shocks me.
Hitman, Im guessing your emplyment was for the gov in your lifetime. tell me Im wrong? lol

Everyone complains and then eventually they all come back, because eBay is where the buyers are for obscure parts.

while I agree alex, I will only be a buyer. I spend 1000. a month or more many months, but I dont really sell. so in the end, when you lose the sellers, what do you have?

Ive known several sellers who no longer bother. as a seller, you cant even post neg feedback when its warranted. I sold a car on there last week and the buyer backed out..... yawn...........same old same old.

I no longer sell on ebay anymore either for all the same above reasons. Its not worth the
hassle. They have taken all the fun out of it.
I do still buy as you can still find things you can't get easily elswhere.
I do feel for the sellers.

maybe one day a better platform comes out and we all get lucky. Ebay had it right under whitman, then the hedge funds manager came in and screwed it all up!

buyers and sellers need to be treated equally. right now its 70% for the buyer and the seller is totally screwed. only a matter of time................

example-the car I sold on there last week, the buyer chged his mind after bidding. How does that work out at an auction house? there should have been 100. loss to the buyer on his credit card. again, no accountability.
what this country has become.

I've been buying and selling on eBay since December 1995, so going on 30 years this year. I've seen a lot of people and organizations/companies try to start their own auction sites, but they tend to fizzle. I only know of one other in my other hobby that's still around, and that's because it's firearm-related and people can't sell firearms on eBay - so they own that niche.

eBay is one of those "you can't live with it, you can't live without it" sort of things. They aren't perfect, but for those of us who only sell online (I don't have time or bandwidth to do flea markets) they are the only show in town that gets the kind of traffic regularly. Other selling sites, particularly for car parts, are sadly lacking for traffic (pardon the pun!)

I see them as charging a service, matching sellers with buyers, and as a seller, I pay for their service. Since I know I'm going to have to pay the seller's fees, I mark up my items accordingly. It's a bummer because sometimes I sell items to people I know from the forums and they've paid more for the items than I would have sold them to them for off-eBay (AND I've had to pay the fees) but sometimes it just works out that way.

I've also gotten 1099s from eBay since 2021. Excited? Not really, but it's all part of life (death and taxes....) :D

It doesn't work to try to sell "as-is" on ebay. I sold two items to the same bidder a while ago, via buy-it-now. Listed them AS-IS with no returns, described the parts honestly. Emailed the buyer ahead of payment telling him the parts were AS-IS, he agreed. Then when the buyer received them he filed a claim because they were not new. Yeah, ya think? Ebay refunded him and pulled it out of my account. I don't sell on ebay anymore, I don't need the stress.

I notice not one person saying they no longer sell on eBay has said where they currently sell. I assume it’s nowhere.

I got away from ebay close to 20 years ago after some problems.I just use Craigslist and facebook, and while they have their own special brand of idiots, there is no outside set of rules to deal with. For the most part I am done with shipping stuff.I want people to put their own eyes and hands on it before they pay me.I've been selling stuff since I was about 15,and selling now is a whole different world than it was a few years ago.Lots of stupid, insulting offers, mostly but not limited to from people hiding behind a keyboard. Also people that want to typewrite everything. That's fine for initial contact, but if you can't operate a telephone that will be the end of it.I don't have texting,so I have to go in the house to use the computer.Lots of people want me to bring things to them to look at.??? Really??? I have a 31 pickup in a basket to sell, and a guy asked me to load it all up,and haul it 36 miles for him to look at.
