Distributor Automatic Advance Kits

DIST,FORD MODEL B UNILITE

Part: 4501106
$111.37

I just purchased one of these from Mallory and am in the process of getting things (timing etc) set up. Nice, clean, simple and cheap, the toughest thing, so far, was changing the cam gear position so the distributor was properly oriented. I like it.

The only possible downside to this is that you may have to purchase the spring set from Mallory for $60 if you want to be sure of the degrees of advance(I did for my used Mallory.)

Automatic timing advance has nothing to do with pulling air faster through the carb. It just make sure the combustion mix is fired at the right moment relative to engine speed and piston position.

The only thing that speeds up the flow through the carb is the engine rpm.

I installed a FS Zipper in my 30 tudor. Excellent results, stock apearence, comes in 6 or 12 volt. and FS is great to work with.

The guys at FS are super. They came down and gave a demo of all their products at our last club meeting. The thing that stands out is their commitment to quality and customer service.

Ok. I'm convinced FS Ignitions, formerly Remund Ignitions, offers a great product. I am purchasing the Zipper Distributor today if I can get them to answer the phone. :)

I like the idea of the centrifugal advance. I am worried about not using the spark advance properly while driving and overheating the engine. Plus, it has other advantages...

That's a handsome coupe you have there! Looks like my twin.

True. I am a Lawton Mac graduate. Where is Tonkawa, OK? My daughter lives in Lawton and I get out there every now and then.

Far north Oklahoma. On I35 just 20 miles south of the Kansas border. Grew up in the Cement area so Lawton, Lake Latonka, Lake Elsworth are not foreign to me.

Hi put mine back to stock 4 years ago no more worrys.car runs great.put lever up when starting pull down 3 or 4 notchs down .take off!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you say "no more worries"? It does sound simple to drive doesn't it? I just like the idea of low"er" maintenance (without points) and automatic timing advance. I also like automatic transmissions so much all my other cars (not model A's) have them...I guess I just like to make things simple when given the choice. To each his own...I have lots of friends that would rather drive a stick. That's ok to me.

Just got into my sedan to move it back into the driveway. Turned on the fuel, spark up, key on depress starter, pull throttle down the up (accelerator pumps). It fires right up, deftly adjust the spark and laugh at myself. Gotta remember it has auto advance! Maybe that spark lever could be for turn signals.......

Milton,
I have a little clamp on my spark lever detent plate to keep me from over advancing. I don't think you will ever want to advance the spark beyond what the centrifugal device gives you, but it is occasionally very handy to be able to manually over-ride the advance and give it a few clicks of retard, like when you suddenly realize you're pulling a bit too steep a grade and hear the pinging but are going too fast to downshift. To allow this, I set up my timing with the lever three or four clicks down. Here's a blurry picture.

I guess I could have explained it better. My spark advance isn't hooked up but, since I just installed a new auto advance distributor, I was sitting there advancing nothing. Old habits.... :D
