D day

Thanks Paul,

I'll make sure I say something to my departed Farther in my thoughts this morning. Major Malcolm E. Slight U.S. Army.

We were fortunate he returned to us in the spring of 1946 from Belguim, he finally had enough points for discharge.

Same here---nothing in the "newspaper" and I didn't hear anything on the TV news. And, I agree it is very sad that so many gave so much so we can have the gall(and freedom) to forget them.

So true that no one even mentions this great day. Even the yuppies on google put up some BS about drive in movies. I wonder where they would be today if "D DAY" had not happened? Don't even want to go there.

Thank You to all who served to give us the freedom. June 6th 1944 my father served at that time he was a Belgium citizen. He past away in 1971 I have all of his war medals and ribbons good memories.
Thank You

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have
striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The
hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on
other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war
machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of
Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well
equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of
1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats,
in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their
strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home
Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions
of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.
The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to
Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in
battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great
and noble undertaking.

Paul, we get the same paper, the Hartford Courant. It hasn't been the same since the Tribune Co. sucked them up. All they care about is profits. The Sunday paper is like a Weds paper was when I delivered papers as a kid. No news, but a whole back page of Hartford High society BS! THey should be ashamed of themselves for not a mention of this great day. We owe alot to those guys for what they did. They had a job and they did it! My Dad didn't get over there until Jan 45, but he saw alot and never wanted to talk about it. He came home and raised 6 kids. He's gone now and I miss him every day.

its so sad that i didnt hear anything on the news, we didnt even talk about it in U.S. History class.

From Basic Training my Dad was sent to the China Burma theater, all of his buddies from boot camp went to Normandy. All of them were lost. I have thought about this day today, and all of those men that died for our freedom. It kills me that the pot smoking punks in this country have no fn clue!
We will never forget!

Just like to say thanks to all that were there on that day . Hopefully heaven lets folks look at fordbarn as many are there already . Didn't make the news here either .

To walk off that boat into German fire. Those are my heros. Thank you to the Greatest generation. Its a shame the President didn't recognize today, I'm sure it will be some of those mens last D-day and there aren't to many left.

I remembered, I watched "Saving Private Ryan" last night. And although it's only a hollywood movie, It made me think of all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. And it brought a tear to my eye. I will never forget.

Front page 'above the fold' recollections from vets in the Omaha World-Herald. Needless to say D-Day always gets attention here because of a certain code word for a beach in Normanday...

its so sad that i didnt hear anything on the news, we didnt even talk about it in U.S. History class.

Man, that sure hit home! My grandfather and 3 uncles fought in WWII! One of my uncles hit the beach on Normandy 68 years ago and received the Purple Heart w/ 2 Oak Clusters by the time he got to Germany. Uncle TC is my hero and always will be!

Unfortunately, for all of us, they are forgotten in today's history books and most peoples' memories! I am proud of what my heroes did to preserve my way of life and equally as proud of what our service men do to continue it today!

God Bless our troops!

D Day was such an important battle, and to pay tribute to all the people that fought so bravely, thousands giving their lives, because they believed in freedom for all, and that includes freedom for you and me.
They deserve our never ending gratitude, from EVERYONE of us...... Never forget !!!
