Getting the 'A' ready for a show yesterday and found a lot of Cotton the rumble seat floor. Pulled the Seat and Back and sure enough, I have a MOUSE problem.

I ran a search and found that Moth Balls and Fabric Softener pads may not be the best solution.

ANY HELP APPRECIATED

I use moth CRYSTALS not the balls. Much more potent. Available at Wal-Mart. You need to find if there is a nest still in your car. Get out the traps. Spread the crystals on the floor all around the car.

I have tried something new. A friend suggested mole deterants. They are a pointed cylinder with batteries inside, that you are supposed to stick in the ground. I just lay them in the cars, where they touch metal. Every 38 seconds or some such odd figure, they vibrate and make a noise, like someone making a high pitched raspberry with their lips. I have one in the tudor that has been going for over a year. It is supposed to annoy the critters so they leave. The intermittant noise seems to be the key, as they supposedly dont get used to it. I got mine at the garden center.
Another thing I did to discourage the mice from stealing cotton from the seats, is to cover the back side of the seat cushions with fine hardware cloth (wire fence) so they cannot easily get to the cotton.

This is what tractor dealers in my area use and it works. We had had constant problem with mice building nests under hoods and in interiors until I tried this product last year.

Mouse traps outside the garage door in the corners has killed many mice, and mothballs in the car has kept them away. Right now is when they are starting to move in again, so set the traps, or let the cats out.

This was my last year's post on mouse control, but worth posting again.

Don’t like to use poison because the mouse dies in some unknown location and stinks up the place.
Don’t like to use cats because I don’t want cats around.
Don’t feel sorry for the neighbor’s cat that gets caught in the trap because it shouldn’t be roaming free at night eating birds, especially in MY yard !
Don’t use peanut butter inside any more because although it works, it also invites the mice in for lunch. Now I use FLOUR.
Don’t like to use a tray of drain oil for the mice to drink because although it works, I always seem to be stepping into it too!
Don’t have confidence in traps unless I can rework the release mechanism to remove all the stamping burrs and polish and oil the contact surfaces so they release with just the slightest pressure. Kind of like I do to my revolvers. But I don’t use them to get mice; it is too tough on the walls.

But I do like other things, like a cloth packet of mint leaves hanging in the car. Grow a peppermint plant in a bucket and it will keep away most critters including deer. It spreads from the root system so be sure to contain it in a bucket or it will take over.
Do like mothballs but they have to be the “old fashioned” ones that still have the sulphur and napthalene because those two ingredients do drive away the mice and most other critters too. Including snakes and bats!
Do put mothballs just inside the corners of the doors where the gaps usually are so the mice don’t come in at all.
Do like aluminum foil under the tires because it works.
Do like a 6” wall around the car that is made of aluminum flashing because it works.
Do like to put a string of Christmas lights across the floor just inside the overhead door because mice don’t like to come out of the closet into the light.
Do like to use a BB gun because it is extremely effective and a whole bunch of fun. You do have to be patient. The down side of the BB gun is that it does tend to damage things like the porcelain on a stove when you are chasing down a mouse and it ducks into the kitchen stove vent at the last second and you let go an errant shot. Then you find out the meaning of “If Mamma ain’t happy, ain’t Nobody happy”……

I have 2 yard cats...never had a problem with mice or snakes...rodents detect the cats presence and stay away or get eaten; either way, no mice, no snakes, no problem.
Shelter cats are appreciative of a good home and will work hard for you to protect their safe environment; at least they have for the 40 years I have enjoyed them.

when a mouse eats poison they come out into the open doing circles... never had one go down hidin somewheres...
dont use mothballs IMO that ruins a car also

Well, Momma and I will be headed for town tomorrow so we'll try the local farm supply. Don't have any dogs, can't stand the smell of cats, and it sounds like I want to stay away from Moth Balls and Fabric Softner, my wife is scared to death of snakes and spiders, so I'll opt for the Fresh Cab.

Thanks for the input, you're always there when someone like me needs help........

how is your car stored barn, detached garage, garage part of the house

I have a large heated shop that I park the A in. It's a 48' x 72' detached building. It's not a pole barn, it's a custom stick built garage with insulated walls/ceiling and concrete floor. I park the vehicles on HD Tarps to keep them dry. I've never had a mouse problem prior to this year and I think it stems from a bucket of corn for rabbits, which will now be sealed.
