Cooling system rust?

My 1926 hasn't run in 30 years. How do I flush rust out of it? I'll take the radiator to a shop for flush and test.

Plug the inlet and outlets, fill with EvapoRust, let sit a few days and then drain, FLUSH good. Or fill with vinegar.

Do you think there is excessive rust? Maybe just a strong water, detergent (Simple Green or so), or vinegar flush and give it a try. If it doesn't overheat or leak you will be OK.

Is this excessive? Water outlet.

This is what easily came from the head.

Be careful with the radiator, be sure the shop is familiar with T's, as you don't want them to pressure test it. Got to be gentle with old stuff.

That looks like my 26 Fordor when I was draining things down to pull the head. I made a flushing set up using a small pump and strainer that adapted to the water inlet and outlets.

After cleaning the strainer several times after starting my flush, it cleaned up nicely. I used a flushing solution similar to evaporust. Happy with my results.

As far as the radiator that will be a wall hanger, I'm saving up right now to order a flat tube from Berg's. I'm also going with the bronze fan bracket/cylinder head water upper outlet assembly.

I made this set of fittings from PVC and a garden hose connector to flush my motor and radiator. The hose connector was set in place with JB weld. The part with hose connector goes to the lower radiator inlet. The other end goes to the left side of the block outlet, pointing down towards the ground. I hooked it up, turned the water on and rusty crap ran out for several minutes. I was amazed at how much rust came out.
