i installed a new clutch disc, throw out bearing and put a new pilot bearing
in my model a . It grinds when the motor is running when you try to put it in gear. Could this mean the clutch disc is in wrong or what?

I just finished 1yr and a half restoring the car from ground up frame off restoration. Went to take off for the first time and found this problem.

Kind of took the wind out of the sail !!!

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRICIATED B-4 I START TAKING OUT THE TRANS!

if you put it in gear first then start it up will the car move when you engage the clutch? if not it is most likely in backwards

to much free play at clutch pedal, should only have an inch of free travel, engine idling to high 450 to 500 rpm is all you need, a chinese clutch that is to thick, a common problem, try putting trans in second then shift into low, doing that stops the trans gears from turing and grinding going into low, or even to light of gear oil in trans, need oil heaver than the 140 to get in parts stores

Check to make sure you got at least 1 inch of free play in the pedal before your throw out bearing hits the fingers.

Notice how one side of the clutch disc sticks out more than the other (left picture). The high side should always face AWAY from the flywheel on every engine I can think of. In other words on the Model A it should face the rear of the car. Also, before installing the disc, it's a good idea to slide it onto the ****** input shaft to made sure it slides freely.
I also put a light coat of grease on the splines.

Most likely cause is incorrect free play adjustment. Adjust the trunion to one inch of free play. Try the easy things first. Next would be the clutch finger adjustments. That can be done in the car. There are various threads on how to do it. Did you change the pressure plate during the restoration?

Thank you guys for all the feedback i am sure i can find the problem a lot faster now!

This is a great site and a wealth of information. I WILL CHECK IT OUT TODAY !

THANKS AGAIN !
