choke & throttle control rods

Hi Barners, This is probably a dumb question but here goes. I'm putting new control rods on my 34 pickup they are put together with sleeves connecting the long portion to the handle portion, any suggestions the best way to do this? ( choke & throttle).
Thank you
Gary.

Do you have the original sleeves? They should have two small bolts on each end; the bolts have square heads, and are less than 1/4" I think. The sleeves are about 3/4" long if you are going to make them, could make them on a lathe and drill the centres to accomodate the rods. A bit of work, but I don't know if they are available. These were originally crimped together, since most people do not have the necessary tools to do this the a simple and easy way is to glue the throttle knob rod to the choke rod by filling JB Weld adhesive in the junction collar, insert both rods and allow the adhesive to harden. It is important to index the shafts so that the writing on the knob reads correctly after assembly . An alternate method is to solder the collar to the rods but you must do this by making sure that the heat used to solder does not pass up the short shaft to soften the plastic knob.

like dick spadaro said soder them .an old thick to prevent heat travel is to put a pair of vice grips an inch or two away from the sleve on the short end . this stops the heat travel to the knob clean the parts good use a acid flux & you woun,t need much heat i use one of those little torches that you use for sodering wires terms.

Another (sort of Mickey Mouse but effective) way is figure out the exact length
needed, then thread the rod ends and connect with a coupler; use a jam nut on
the knob end so can properly orient the knob to read correctly. Not claiming this to be better than other methods, just another option...
