Cabriolet Upholstery Question

1930.68B

We are ready to order the upholstery for a 1930 Cabriolet. One of the questions the upholstery supplier ask is the length and height of the doors. The length of both doors are the same but they a 1/4" longer at the top than at the bottom. Is this typical ?? If not, should we use the shorter dimension so the panel won't hang over the door at the bottom?
Where would the correct place be to measure the height of the door. The finished body surface at the rear of the door or to the sheet metal panel were the door handle and window is mounted?

Thanks

I expect you should have a metal window garnish that screws to the top of the door. That may have some effect on the dimension.

Wow, there is so much more wood in the doors of my ’29 than in your “30. I was going to measure my doors to see if they’re the same, but it wouldn’t matter because they are so much different. I’m sure there’s at least five pounds more wood in my doors than yours. Mine has cloth upholstrey in the front and vinyl on the rumble seat. I think the fabric is Herculon, and we love it. I wish they’d used the same fabric in the back.

I have a set of original doors at my shop that are in good condition. I will measure in the next day or so.

I ordered a upholstery kit from LeBaron Bonney and I didn't have to send measurements the panels fit with almost no extra fitting. I had the same doors that you have . Norm

Thanks a lot for the photo and information. I suspected the doors were tapered but couldn't find anything to verify the information.

I ordered the LB kit for my August 1929 cabriolet, but used the tan Bedford cord fabric used on the 1930 68B’s. The supplied door panel was too large for my doors and required shaving about a 1/4” or so. Iirc, a tapered wedge had to be removed. I suspect there might have been some variation from car to car during the production run. Also my doors have the metal upper panel like the OP’s 1930 door rather than wood.
