a friend needs bumpers for his 40 deluxe coupe and would like to know how the quality of the chrome plating and are they triple plated ,thanks guys

Not sure, but I think someone said that the reproduction bumpers by Drake have a different shape than originals so original bumper guards don't fit? Check it out before buying. Maybe Kube has the scoop.

Drakes bumpers are "okay". If you are doing a correct restoration, stay far away from them. They can be spotted 30' away. If you are doing a low buck "resto rod", etc. they may be just the ticket for you.
The shape is not the same as the authentic bumpers and the bumper guards do not match the contour of the bumper.
As for the plating? Realistically, you can expect 2 - 3 years before any serious degradation shows.
The steel utilized is of far inferior quality to the authentic. They will "fold" with a minimal hit.
Bottom line remains: If you simply want to get a car put together and be "okay" in appearance, it is no doubt cheaper to go with Drakes.
If you want good (correct) fit and plating that will last for years, find authentic bumpers and get them plated professionally in the USA.

I have those inferior Drake bumpers. Been on there three years with no noticeable degradation. Of course I am just after a good driving hot rod and not a car to be judged. I will buy more for my tudor.

Quote from page #388:
"Our early Ford bumpers add beauty and function. Each matches the original in every detail."

Funny, but the contour is quite obviously incorrect, the shape of the ends does not match the original, there are no ribs on the back and they are not made of spring steel.
"Each matches the original in every detail" apparently means different things to different people.
I am confident Bob will have his art department change this oversight ASAP. DD

As stated the originals have two horizontal ribs on the back. They are superior to ANY reproduction made by anyone. Just picked up a re-chrome original in TN for $300.00. I provided a really rough core...:D
