Another Drake Shipping Charge Rant !!

I guess I am a poor businessman but after buying parts for old Fords since a Model A roadster in 1964 I don't think I really ever thought much about what I just paid for shipping. Opening up the box and finding a good old Ford part was good enough for me. Disappointment was always a bad poorly described part ,this usually by individual sellers.

LeBaron and Bonney has good products in my opinion, but if you want to talk about shipping and handling, try them. Marv

Can you drive from Missouri to to Grants Pass , Oregon to pick up your part for $12.67?

The price of concrete is suppose to double next year because of government regulations. There will be a 3.8% federal sales takes on homes. Now that is something to rant about.

I am sure every vendor tries to cover most of the cost of shipping and realize they probably do not. There are a lot of expenses involved in shipping. Wages, coffee breaks, health insurance, dental insurance, vacation pay,Christmas party, replenishing stock, telephone service, computer service, 401k, car insurance, real estate taxes, parking lot stripping, heat, lights, social security taxes, fork lift fuel, shipping supplies etc.

I am sure every vendor tries to be as efficient as possible and has different methods of covering costs. The vendors need to be competitive and make a profit to stay in business.

This is the same way I feel. Gas is high, shipping costs go up. This is the way of the world now.

As I stated, I have No issue with the price or quaility of the seals. I ordered them from Drake because I've always got fresh rubber produces.
I just think that the shipping cost, in nothing other than a FedX envelope, was out of line.
But on a lighter side ;) I have 2 of Drakes key rings, FREE, you pay shipping :)
I have NO problem with shipping costs if they are what was stated prior to my purchase. After all, i have the right to accept or decline at that time.
To state he ships at cost and add $2 for insurance (recall, insurance is inclusive with UPS and FedEx) is dishonest. I can afford the $2. I can't afford to deal with a person of lacking ethics.

Guys I don't understand all your whinning about vendors @ Drake in particular. If you don't like it go else where. These guys are trying to do a decent job as best they can. If you don't like it start up a business & see if you can compete. Where would you be if they didn't supply you with a part that you have been looking for & couldn't find? Then when you do find a supplier with the part you whine & ***** about the price, the fit, shipping, service & etc. Some of you guys would complain if you got hung with a new rope. There now that is a rant. Go ahead shoot you best shot, I can take it but give the vendors a break.

This is a FORUM !
If a discussion comes up, dealing with how one vendor is working for the consumer and another vendor is not, it is very much in line, here.
The vendors, themselves, can learn what the customer wants. It should work to everybody's advantage.
Bob Drake learned what can happen, when you let your fine quality work slip.

I use postal priority whenever I can. Cheaper and in most cases faster. I shipped part of an order by postal priority last Friday to the east coast and part by UPS. The customer called on Tuesday with the postal parts and UPS showed up on Thursday!

I hear this all the time here's the deal...they aren't shopping around for prices. As stated FedEx comes to the business and picks up. USPS does not. I know they do some places but in reality 90% of the country they do not so they would have to pay a worker time and gas money to go down there. So it costs their business money actually. And if they are a FedEx shipper he's they are under contract to use them exclusively. So they do. No offense but before you get pissed think about it from a business stand point. Now I do think because it was backordered and could have shipped in the same box with the rest they should have not charged you shipping at all. But i well tell you this. I work for a large parts supplier. We use FedEx to ship. Our business is in a PO box only area. For us to pay an employee to go to a post office to ship. It costs us $26 and your paying $4.95 shipping. When it costs a business $20 a package it adds up over a month. We used to do that till one month it cost us $500 then it stopped. Now it's FedEx everything. FedEx offers a volume discount to shippers but there is a retail mark up for handling as well. It's not just shipping your paying for it's the phone call to say your parts in as well as the guy pulling off the shelf and packaging it...you pay for all that...it's been said before on here about bob drake if you don't like his products or business style then start your own and mfg parts and ship them. It's not as easy as it looks. I deal with this every day for Nash Metropolitans. We have to pay import taxes employees to make modify parts, pull off the shelf, pack it all adds up. So you can keep cheap parts prices and mostly cheap shipping. Or watch the parts price increase so you can pay cheaper shipping

BOB your da Nigerian ***** babe! $12.00 for a a flat letter package, give me a break ! the nerve of these crooks.

Stop bleating, try shipping international. it can cost about 2/3 of the price of the goods to ship. Us post always rounds up , a 2lb 2oz item will be charged at 3lb. a $50 item can cost $45 to ship. I think it is too complicated to go to the post office and send good via a flat rate box which , generallly would be way cheaper. $44. for a large flat rate box ,I think,

If we choose to use usps one of my employees needs to drive a few blocks out of their way to drop off the packages. Parts are packaged each and every day , we try not to loose any money on shipping and usually just use a flat rate fee. .............

Call the post office and ask for a sales person to come to your business. The usps will give you FREE flat rate boxes. They will come to your place and pick up the boxes free. If you print out the labels on line you get free delivery confirmation and a discount on the price of shipping.

Ah, B.M., you always add SO much to the conversation.

The post office may be cheaper, but you also forget that you subsidize the USPS with your taxes. Every April you can look at your 1040 and think part of that money was used to ship the parts you purchased. If you live in a state that charges sales tax, but you bought the part out of state, many times you escape the sales tax.So maybe you think the shipping is too much, but you didn't pay the tax. It all pencil's out in the end, so just move on. If you don't like a vendor take your business to another one.
