another 180 on BAT

I remember those sam Sherman adds and Fred pages adds. The cars that where brought up here were well used or should I say beat to poop!

By the year I was born, he was still at it...but no price, sadly. I don't know if this is the same car or not.

THERE WAS A FELLA IN SOUTH aMERICA WHO ADVERTISED IN hEMMINGS........

the Kaplan Family. they always shipped these to the US cheaply. He had many rare styles including two 32 chvy A400s, if you get my drift. I almost bought them, but then figured it was just too much effort.
Amazing the stuff he found down there.

Pages in New Hampshire brought LOTS of RHD cars over to the United States and sold them here. There were a couple of others who did the same in California. Most of these"import" cars were rough.

Hello , I was looking at a 1938 Ford Deluxe from Pages Model A that was an import, it was as rusted as you could find In Ohio. To convert it to left hand drive would be complicated.Pages also had imported Model A s also , little more easer as more Model A parts available.A lot of weld drill though to replace firewall.

I’ve done two 180 that were imported from South America. Had to replace 6” all around. Floor, seats all wrong. But they were what they were. Used USA chassis and had roadster cowls. So….basically bought qtrs and doors. One valance was repairable

Hello again, on second thought, the 38 Deluxe was left hand drive, and was from Denmark, had metric measurements Speedometer, oil pressure, and water temperature gauges .

So...maybe we give it the benefit of the doubt and say someone just used a RHD cowl during restoration. When you add that to the RHD intake and then the GAV rod hole in the steering column...it starts adding up.

Hummm, so you're saying that that steering column bracket was from a RHD car (due to the hole in the bracket for the GAV rod).....but isn't that bracket riveted (and sealed/soldered) to the bottom of the gas tank?

That would take a huge effort to un-rivet it from the right side of the gas tank bottom; patch the holes in the gas tank; make some new holes on the left bottom side of the gas tank and re-rivet (and seal) that bracket to the left side?

Also, on a RHD steering column bracket, isn't that GAV rod hole centered on the bracket? The one in the photo looks to be off center (to the left a bit).

....just curious,
Brad in Maryland

It is very possible that they found a LHD gas tank and used the extension and bracket from the RHD gas tank. We need one of our Australian buddies to pipe up.

the Aussies use quite a bit of Holden bodies.......not quite the same thing.

Canadians would have a better grasp.

Yes. From the photo below, you can see that the GAV rod was not always centered. This one, below, is to the left side, just as the 180 in the auction. Also, while the photos aren't very clear of the weld on the BaT car, it looks like it's not as well done as it should be. While the gas tank could have been replaced (probably easier than moving the mount, tbh) it's the firewall that's the dead giveaway.

No. The bracket that mounts to the tank on LHD and RHD cars is totally different and not interchangeable. The curve of the gas tank underside makes the brackets unique and not interchangeable.

If you've ever seen them off the tank, it's very clear. Aside from the points Brad brings up above....

I'm fine with the theory that they changed the tank out. Either way, it doesn't change the firewall being RHD converted to LHD.

Who here is bidding on this? Maybe best to wait until the auction is over and then ask who here won it.

4 hours left and it's at $25k....we'll see...

I'm glad the 1930 coupe is getting some love. It looks like a nice car.
