I have an 12V alternator, but would like to change back to 6V Powerhouse Generator with an internal requlator. The main reason for not switching back is the cost. Finding a Powerhouse Generator for a reasonable price is difficult. The rest of the items for converting back is not expensive.
One thing you cannot do on a car with a alternator and a dead battery is to push start the car especially with a single wire alternator. With the generator you could just get the vehicle rolling slightly and pop in gear. If the battery is not shorted the vehicle will start.
