Adjusting EZ-steer teflon kit

I'm installing Snyder's EZ-steer teflon kit. The instructions state that the springs should be tightened 25%. The springs free length is 1.000". So, do I tighten it till the spring is .750" long? The spring will coil bind at .735". Does this sound right? You may think that I'm over thinking this but I fear an incorrect adjustment could add steering free play or worse a ball could pop out. Thank you for help!

If the end plugs are adjusted too loosely, there will be slop and play in the steering, possibly accompanied by shimmying. If tightened too much, the car will steer hard, even with the Teflon plugs. I have always tightened the end plugs on the drag link and tie rod so that I can rotate them slightly with a little effort using one hand. Not so that they can be flipped back and forth, but with reasonable wrist strength so that the rod can be rotated back and forth with resistance. That sets the pre-load approximately the way it should be.
No matter which method used to achieve that mythical 25% spring compression, re-check the front end toe-in setting. By tightening or loosening the end plugs on the tie rod, the front end alignment is changed. Alignment is not changed, however, by adjusting the end plugs on the drag link.

Thanks Marshall.
Where did mythical 25% come from? It's very vague. It could mean 25% of total spring length or 25% of travel length or add 25% more tension. It would be a lot simpler and clearer if they just said something like " Tighten free play out and tighten 2 more turns."

The common consensus is 25% compression, but, if the coils are bound at .735" then I think it I would back them off a bit more than that. I don't think new springs are as good as good originals. But, I still like them pretty tight.
Some tighten them just until the cotter slips in, I tend to like them tighter than that.
