8ba fan belts

Hello members, looking for some assistance with fan belt and gen/water pump belt install. I picked up a 1951 F3 with 8ba motor, when purchased the radiator was out as well as generator, and fan pulley assembly. I had the radiator and generator reconditioned and purchased belts from NPD. The belt for the gen/waterpumps went on snug, the belt for the fan seems long. I am installing the fan pulley assembly with the adjustment slots, I'll call them, up and the fan pulley is below. Any other way it seems the fan pulley will interfere with the generator. The fan belt is listed in manuals as 8ba-8577, NPD # F-8620-5a. The bag says narrow fan & waterpump belt from Dennis Carpenter, the other tag says Drive belt, engine assessory, 48-52 F1-3 239 NPD. The belt, when stretched measures about 21 1/2 inches. Can anyone tell me what the fan belt length should be? The next question is how do you adjust tension, easier with radiator out which it is, but do you adjust the gen/pump belt first then the fan belt?

The trucks are supposed to have the wide belt pulleys. Those belts measure 5/8 x 37 for the fan and 5/8 x 54.50 for the generator/waterpumps. The fan hub is mounted with the 2 slots above the hub.
8BA narrow pulleys ( car ) are 3/8 x 41.37 for the fan and 3/8 x 51.60 for the 35amp generator and 3/8 x 52.50 for the 60 amp generator.
I have the wide pulleys in my truck and the fan belt was a pain to find thru the parts houses. They all were either too short or way too long. I ended up getting one not listed for the truck. I used a long bar between the gen and the intake and gently lifting up the gen to tighten the belt. I tightened the fan belt by putting a bar above the waterpump and pushing down on the bar, lifting the hub up. I did not put alot of pressure on the bar , as not to damage the pump. It's not a fun job to say the least!

This is a trick tool for adjusting belt tension. Sorry, I do not know the source

That's a nifty tool. I've used a block of wood on the water pump for the same fulcrum effect. For the generator tension I've had success with my F1 straddling the engine with one foot on each chassis rail (backside to the firewall) while pulling up with both hands on the generator. The ring spanner needs to be positioned in advance to nip the nut. In 30 years time I will have to have found another method ...
