6 volt generator in the '40

I removed the previous caretaker's 1 wire, 12V, out of place alternator, regulator and drop resistor to use an original 6V generator & regulator. I rewired that circuit while I was at it. Where did Henry originally ground the wire from the generator ground terminal on the '40 ? Thank you Fordbarners.

The 40 didn't originally come with a ground post. Ford later added this to ensure a good ground between gen and regulator. You can leave it not connected . Or run a wire and ground it to the regulator. Either way it will work.

I think it is very important to ground the regulator it may be grounded regardless make sure it is grounded. Note: I drilled a small hole in the regulator base and attached a wire from ground post on the generator to the regulator case and then to frame...I know its overkill but that's what I did!

A direct ground connection was added between the generator and the regulator in 41. Prior to 41 the generator was grounded through its mount and the regulator was grounded to the firewall. The ground added in 41 was a connection between these two grounds as opposed to the ground connection being through the block, frame, ground straps, etc. Ford determined that a better more direct ground connection improved performance.
