56 throttle linkage

Is the throttle linkage bellcrank the same for both automatic and standard transmission cars? Sounds like a silly question I know but I have a 56 Victoria that originally came with a 292 and automatic and now has a 312 standard with overdrive.

When the gas pedal is depressed the carburetor arm on the bellcrank hits the firewall before the carburetor is fully open. I don’t know if the original 292 had a two or four barrel. It currently has a Teapot. If the linkage between the carb and bellcrank is shortened the bellcrank arm going to the accelerator bottoms out on the firewall. Still won’t open the carb fully.

OK... Let's try this again.

Your particular application does not use the intake manifold shaft and bracket, but there is a difference in the ACCELERATOR ASSY (9725) (firewall mount) between AT and STD.

Good Used 1956 Ford 272 292 312. Fire wall to gas pedal Throttle Linkage 2 & 4 Barrel Carburetor Std 3 Speed transmission. Missing is the straight rod to carb. May have one to sell inquire.

I have one of these brackets also. It came with my 312 Y Block. So, when my son-in-law calls around next week, we have a selection of options for him to chose. Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions. Regards Mercman <><

Finally, the problem of the linkage on my 56 Mercury has been solved. My son-in-law came over today and we visited a NAPA Store and purchased everything that we needed. My freshly rebuilt 312 Y Block is now all complete and running perfectly. We switched the connection from the bottom to the top , as you can see in the above picture. Next item to tackle is getting the Air Cleaner to fit.

What all exactly did you have to change over? Did you swap the firewall bell crank also?

LOOKS NICE!

he wanted a pull linkage from firewall.pretty simple as when pedal pushed down firewall side pulls back.as I said in early post not rocket science.I sure Trev will be along shortly to confirm

Reply regarding mercman's problem-

All I want to know is if he had to change the firewall bellcrank as there is a difference or if he was able to fabricate around the situation.

Sorry I haven't your expertise...

I was absent the day they discussed rocket science.

Re: WHATEVER

it is called doing not reading parts books.

So much for "leaving it at that"...

...whatever...

Now, let's try this again. What does reading or not reading parts books (and or SHOP/ASSEMBLY MANUALS) have to do with the problem(s) being discussed?

BTW, mercman said all he needed for his particular application was the throttle linkage rod and lever bushing kit.

Why does all of this seem to upset you?
