56 F100 hood hinges, major problem

I heard the stock '56 F100 hinges ones never worked well. But using a nice tight pair of OEM ones last night 3 of us worked hours to try to get this hood to coming even close to shutting. First of all when you shut it both rear corners are up SEVERALl inches,. You have to go back and push like hell on each corner sometimes that lifts the opposite side corner again...Plus I can only open it about a third of the way.It will hit the windshield if I would continue to raise it higher but I won't....Tell me how I know(cracked the windshield ) Now I have in the past on other Fords had to push down a rear corner a 1/2" or so but 8" or so is nuts.I am sure this has been addressed before ...But are the $600 billet ones the answer? Windshields aren't cheap either so???

I have a 55 with old hinges. I believe they would be the same as the 56. My hinges have a stop that won't allow the hood to open very far, not far enough to hit the windshield. I do have to push the corners down a few inches. Do your springs have a stop, or is the windshield the stop?

Found out that 53-55 hinges are different than 56. Not only the bolt hole size which I knew but the length of the two arms is longer on a 56 hinge than that of a 53-55 F100 hinge. The 56 measures 6 1/4" and the 53-55 measure 5 3/8" on the main arm of the 2 arms,That was a lot of my problem most likely why the hood nails the windshield.
