A buddy has a '40 Mercury that he wants to put four 97s on (warmed up). What was original on that flathead engine. How about four 94 ford carbs, do you think they would work better ?

I doubt you will find a 4 carb intake that will take 94 carbs. The only ones I've ever seen will only take 97's. Walt

Hey Walt,
Very good info, thanks !
I'm sure that he knows that, as he's a master engine builder himself. I'm the no nothing,eh:D ! He's doing stuff on a B banger block for me to 'save it' from scrapper. He just asked if I have couple of 97 for his rig. Just trying to help out and have the four 94s. Better stop thinking.

Walt, of four 94s that I have, ONE has a vacuum port on its side and the other three do not. I'm guessing , but thot that someone here knows difference and why ...for sure.

The carb with the vacuum port on the side is for the 49-53 Ford 8BA engine. The ones without the port are 48 and older. The port on the side is made for a vacuum line to the post dist. vacuum advance. Walt

unless hes really going th nostalgia route, he would be better off with a 390cfm or if the enginge is pretty well buit up a 500 cfm, easier to tune and keep tuned

Hey Walt,
Great info, agreed to by Max! Can't get getter than that...thanks :) !
He (buddy) is going with 97s for nostalgia, he says. So, I'll put the four 94s back to sleep.
