That's almost as sad as having a '40 Opera Coupe for 29 years and having it stolen. If I ever find the thief, justice will be swift !

It's a shame what happened but i have seen worse,,id park it out back and figure out a way to attempt a repair....

A friend of mine who lives just a few miles away from the accident site, bought the
wrecked '40 and the trailer, and the tow pickup.
He started working on the '40 a little bit, but thought he might have he bit off a little
more than he can chew. He said he'll give me a call if he decides to sell it.;)

.

$21k was a great price for that car, maybe its fate. The car just didnt want to be saved.

When the time comes I would like to get one. May have to trade my 1934 5W to make it happen.

Well lets see if the new retooled Bob Drake body would work as a replacement. Thats just sickening to see that.

With a car that was in that condition before and the parts that can be bought for it, it is well worth fixing. I hope it gets into the right hands that will do so. Steve

I have seen a lot worse resurrected. Over on the hamb I have seen them take swiss cheese garbage that has been vandalized for years and make show cars out of them. Its just a matter of how much work you want to put into it. A replacement roof, door, fender and some tweeking and alignment and it should be restorable. At least you won't be working with rust.

Yep, that is what I was thinking (here is the body offered by Carpenter). It's a shame it has happened, but this car can be resurrected. I hope someone tackles it and keeps us updated. TM

Sad to see but very easily fixed by a decent to good metal man …. obviously only good for parts to a restorer.

Are you guys joking? i have seen worse roofs fixed than that one. i had one that was crushed in so i pushed it back out again, but i am not very good at it so it always had a weird crease in the outer edge.

You better have another look at that roof.
That is heavy, thick structure there, and I looked it over (in person), and
you would have to be David Copperfield with a magic wand to fix that roof

.

one guy that might be able to save it would be merle berg, in eastern iowa, but what would it cost?

.
i saw a guy (over several months!) cut a car into 6 pieces and use an english wheel on pieces like that. He has good skills though. Most people would cut that part out and replace it (including me).
