40 Coupe rollover

There was a great auction in Echo, Minnesota yesterday of the Reber collection of old Fords. A low mileage all original 1940 Ford Coupe sold for $22,000. The buyer loaded it on his car trailer and headed out on the highway but he only got one mile before he met an SUV at an intersection. Don't know the details but he was in the ditch in the far corner of the intersection with the Coupe sitting on the ground. It had rolled over. One mile at $22,000. Bummer.

This is the 1940 Ford in the Auction Catalog.

terrible shame! wanted to go to that auction, what did the 39 std 2 door go for?

The black '39 2 dr sold for $13,000..... It was a Very Nice car. ;)

Does any one know what the 1934 coupe and the low mileage I think 49 or 50 Ford brought?

The '34 Coupe sold for $54,000 and the '51 two dr with real
low miles sold for $21,000 ;)

I wanted the 35 Tudor with 25,000 miles but $17,000 was too high for me. All of them were very nice original cars and you would not believe the quantity and quality of the NOS parts. A 32 Ford NOS front fender went for $2500.

A good friend who has a number of genuine 32 front fenders examined the "NOS" fender very closely. He said it was an old repro and didn't weigh anywhere close to a Gennie. He also said the area around the headlight bar was not correct either. He couldn't believe what it was bid up to. NOS is NOT THE SAME as NORS!
Also there was a box with alot of clock mirrors which one by one 'disappeared' before they were auctioned! Very sad.
The worst news is the 40 coupe getting wrecked one mile away.

Hi Rob, Did your friend tell Rollie that he thought the fender was not genuine Ford ?
Your friend might be pretty smart about Genuine Ford, but so is Rollie.

Anyone who knows Rollie also knows that he is one of the most knollegeable Ford
collectors around, as he has had most of these parts for 40 to 50 years or more, and
anyone who knows Rollie, will surely attest to the fact that he is very honorable and
would NOT tell a lie. If he thought any of his parts were not genuine Ford, he would
Never sell it as such, period !!!

What a sad end to what would have been an unbelievable day. I hope its salvageable.
Not too many of these left . I cannot imagine the sickening feeling he must have.

Wow...original/STOCK and low mileage...brings a tear to my eye,eh!! Especially after seeing pic of car above.
As I've looked for same such car for looong time ..to no avail. Sad indeed!

I located a photo of the car. It indeed is sickening. I'm insured by Hagerty, they undoubtedly seem to be the best. I called on a saturday from Pennsylvania when I picked up my newly purchased 68C this summer. I was instantly covered, and felt the comfort of knowing that.

what a shame!! Does anyone know what happened to cause this?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The NEW owner had just bought it, loaded it on his trailer, and headed
west towards California, where he lives.
He made it about 1/2 mile west of the auction where for whatever reason
he went through a stop sign and collided with a vehicle, and his pickup
and trailer with the '40 all went off the road and rolled, and also collided
with some machinery sitting there. :(
