38 emergency brake

I have a 38 that was converted to Hydraulic brakes over 20 years ago. Unfortunately the "authorities will not license it in Aiustralia the way it is... Eemergency brake cable wrapped around the clevis after using the original cross shaft to actuate it.
I intended to remove the cross shaft assembly and install the brace plate that is used in 39 chassis to maintain chassis strength and setup the emergency brake the same as 39. Does anyone know who can supply this part or has a better suggestion?

Surely if the Parking Brakes (cable) is correctly set up there shouldn't be any problem with it.

As for the hydraulics there are many pre '39' cars correctly registered with the later brakes. This is a simple procedure to go through as many have done it. Talk to your local EFV8 club or Hot Rod club regarding what is required.

Good luck.

Here is what I did with my 37 Tudor. A simple arrangement that works great. Rube Goldberg has nothing on me. Zeke

What bracket do you need? The one mounted on the torque tube radius rod mounting? 91A-2270 used in 39 and 40?

I drilled a hole in the crossmember and inserted the brake cable from the front side and used a standard retaining clip on the rear. Looks very neat and doesn't have any extrainous BS attached. I believe I needed a longer E brake cable...maybe a foot or so. I just went to one of the online suppliers and bought it. Might have been from a station wagon. Stacey Brown around Austin Texas may have had the part. I did it about 10 years ago. Works great and looks professional! g

thanks all for the advice..
Zeke, the cross-member plate shown in the lower half of the 2 pic you posted is the plate I am looking for - it replaces the cross-shaft assy.
El Rat - I assume that this is the crossmember that you drilled to secure the front cable.
I have a 01A-2853 77' front cable that allows me to route the cable through the hole in the forewall alongside the guard and long enough to get to the crossmember. I also have a 91A-2275B 122" rear emergency brake cable - the linkage between the 2 cables will only be about 3" long, whict will work well.

Mills and company(on the internet) makes a pretty good kit for adding e brakes, call them up and talk to Josh he will set u up. He did one for my 32 frame with 37 rear and 48 brakes.
