*37 Pickup Check Strap*

What is the difference between the 6, 7, and 8 loop door check strap. The pic makes the rubber look so stiff. I can't see how it's going to flex in half when the door shuts.

Zippi, I believe that you are using the wrong door check strip. m Your door check should look like the ones in the enclosed photo.

Your pickup did not use that type of check strap. It used one with a steel arm that disappeared/retracted into the door. The arm had a rubber bumper and steel washer retained by a cotter pin. The assembly served as a shock absorber/rebound. The arm is riveted to the door post/A pillar.

Don: The correct check strip has a slight S curve to it. Look at the stuff for the pickup book I sent you, I have several pictures of the correct strap in there. Lawson

Don't believe everything you read in reproduction books. Macs describes the wrong door latch too. Pickup uses the same as 34 Ford. Straight on the ends. No rounded edges.

Lawson, You are correct..there is a slight "S" curve in the strap. I was just trying to show the type of strap to use and how it was different from what he had been told by MAC's

Thanks for all the info guys. I do have those metal & rubber door check straps in place as well but they are very loose with the wrong bolts. I just took my 37 in last night to have all the interior re-done. I'll pop the door panel off and take a better look once it comes back. It's about 40 min away from the house. It'll be a long 5 weeks.

Don also has a cut away door showing how strap /pads are attached.

Here are some of Lawson's door check detailed images.

Thanks guys. The ones I currently have look just the same except the rubber may be hard as a rock. I assume the notches are to adjust just how far you want the door to swing open? Can you purchase just the rubber and the clip?
