35 Ford truck windshield question

Where can I find information on how to remove the old glass and install new glass? I have a 35 Ford model 51, single glass.

The hard part is going to be to get the two pieces of the windshield apart. Soak with plenty of penetrating oil of your choice. A little heat may be necessary as well. You may even have to drill out some of the screws. Tough job but it can be done if you take it slow and easy.

There are two rectangular panels above the windshield. Take those out and you can gain access to the hinge screws. Hopefully the windshield will roll out, if so, you will also have to remove a couple of screws that attaches the wind out mechanism to the windshield frame. You may, and hopefully not, have to remove the belt molding that goes all the way across the dash and remove the wind out mechanism while it is attached to the windshield frame. That belt molding is attached with 6 screws that can only be accessed with the windshiled opened out, and 6 screws across the underside of the belt molding where it attaches to the dash. Of course, you will have to remove the windshield regulator handle to remove the belt molding. Good luck.

The w/s comes out with the 2 hinges attached to it,then you can see how it comes apart from the inside of it. ken ct. soak, soak and soak some more.

If all else fails and the frame is beyond salvation, a new one can be purchased from Trautwein Products.

Have the frame out. Soaked the four screws and they are stuck. Tomorrow will have to try some heat then the drill. Do all four screws have to come out on both sides to split the frame or can two on each side come out and split it? Thanks

I would suggest removing all four screws on both sides because you will not know which end of the inner rectangular bar will start coming out of the frame first or easiest. I have taken at least six '35-'36 passenger car WS frames apart and some were a real sob/pita to get apart. One was ruined by my impatience so take your time and use plenty of penetrating oil and heat if necessary. Unfortunately, I will be doing another one soon to replace fogging glass. Not really looking forward to that job.

I need to do a similar job on a 33 passenger car. If you use heat, do you just not worry about the glass and the rubber, as that is going to be replaced? My glass is cracked.

Mart.
