33 gas gauge issues

My gas gauge read 3/4 when full before I pulled the dash to get it woodgrained. The gauge hung upside down for about a month before I put the dash back in. Now no red fluid is visible anymore. Ideas??

Hanging upside down most likely drained all the red fluid out of the tube. Here are the instructions .

Upside down! now the fluid has probably has very well coated the internals of your gauge and it will start rusting.

As Sheldon pointed out, you'd be best to pull it off and clean it thoroughly and then follow the posted "refill" instructions. Otherwise you will see it deteriorate and they are not as easy to find these days.
