32 fuel pump check valve removal

What everyone has been suggesting.......Speedway #560-52650 fuel pump....it's
identical to your photo, or maybe one of mine. Remember it's only a Flathead.

Ok, so I got the replacement Offie fuel pump, bolted it on, cranked the car and....nothing.

If I use gas or starting fluid in the carb, it tries to fire. I've verified the line from the tank to the pump isn't clogged. When I feel for suction at the inlet to the pump during cranking, I feel a slight tug on my finger but not much. There is equal pressure on pump's outlet. I also verified the driver piston is working (see https://www.dropbox.com/s/kzj81rp9vhqsfa0/2016-11-28 14.53.38.mov?dl=0).

It's a brand new pump so I assume it is functioning correctly and a whole lot of suction isn't needed. The fuel line is clear. The piston is operating. So why isn't fuel feeding the carb?:mad::mad:

Ford service bulletins note intake suction as the most important test on a fuel pump. I think they call for a pull of 10 on the olde traditional gauges.
Yours sounds anemic. Speedway sells lots of parts for older engines labeled as Offenhauser that are Chinese made and not anything Offenhauser made before Speedway took it on. I don't know if traditional Offy products like heads and manifolds are still made here.
If this were mine...I'd find a used original pump, any of the several '34-48 styles, and a kit from some place like Daytona that says they work with modern fuel mixes. And I'd save and compare the big spring, keeping it if the new spring seems a lot stronger. Many current parts supply springs that give way too much pressure for early carbs. You should be able to turn up pumps or pump cores in the want ads here.

PS...a low pressure electric pump is a reasonable quick fix, temporary or permanent. Suitable models have been posted on here...for a quick patch, splice in in place of real pump with just 1/4 fuel hose and clamps. Not an optimum permanent install that way, but will get the beast running while you find a pump that speaks English.

In My Opinion: Return the new fuel pump. Contact Charlie NY above and get one of his 46-48 fuel pumps. They have a glass bowl that has a fuel filter inside, a modern material fuel pump diaphram and are tested before being sold. Remove the plastic fuel filter. When installed and connected you will have a good rebuildable fuel pump that will last many years. Get your engine running and enjoy it, make changes slowly. repair what needs to be repaired before changing things just to make it appear correct. Looks like you have a nice 32 5-Window coupe. All of the 32 5-W were Standard. This is why your car does not have cowl lights (Deluxe item). The 32 5-W could have come with a 4 or 8 Cyl engine. Dave Rehor has a 32 restoration book sold by the Early Ford V8 Club. It can answer many questions about what was original.

This is what the later model that can be rebuilt looks like inside it has a bracket to hold the valves in
