312

Well, turns out the block I have that was supposed to be a 312 ( bought it years ago and never cked the #'s ), has turned out to be a 292 bored .040, but upon putting a bore gauge to it , it seems it was bored to .042, why I don't know. It also has a sleeve in it. so I am going to use a different 292 block and bore it .060, turn the 312 crank mains and seal surface to 292 spec's and use the 312 rods with 292 pistons because it seems that the 292 pistons are quite a bit cheaper. will end up with a 313 in stead of a 312. My brother, my machinist , found a Howard cam through summit that will work good for me just a mild street cam with a power range from @1800rpm to @5000rpm. will work good with an auto trans. and have a good idle quality. should be a good choice for my '30 coupe. it is pretty light, no fenders, no hood. 3:25 traction-lock rear.

Hey Jim
What's the cam number? And Randy said to say Hi
Thanks again for the help on the manifold
Jim

I will have to get the # from my brother. summit did not list any spec's for the cam. it listed about 4 cams. my brother contacted Howard cams through their web site to get the spec's I believe. not sure on that, but I will check. I think the cam # is 292002-10 . that is listed in summit, but like I said no spec's. I will get back to you when I talk to my brother tomorrow.----Jim That # is the one listed in Howards on line catalog see the link in the post below

Jim, when you use 292 pistons with a 312 crank, make sure the piston skirts clear the counterweights on the crank. You may have to machine the piston skirts a little for clearance. John

It is the 292002-10 cam, but with our 1.6 rockers we will have a .503 lift, of course without the lash figured in.
The first block, EDB, that was supposed to be a 312 is in fact a .090 292 block. We will be using a EDB but only .060 over now.

Already checked that, the 292 pistons have more clearance that the 312's do. Both sets are sealed power pistons.
