Well, turns out the block I have that was supposed to be a 312 ( bought it years ago and never cked the #'s ), has turned out to be a 292 bored .040, but upon putting a bore gauge to it , it seems it was bored to .042, why I don't know. It also has a sleeve in it. so I am going to use a different 292 block and bore it .060, turn the 312 crank mains and seal surface to 292 spec's and use the 312 rods with 292 pistons because it seems that the 292 pistons are quite a bit cheaper. will end up with a 313 in stead of a 312. My brother, my machinist , found a Howard cam through summit that will work good for me just a mild street cam with a power range from @1800rpm to @5000rpm. will work good with an auto trans. and have a good idle quality. should be a good choice for my '30 coupe. it is pretty light, no fenders, no hood. 3:25 traction-lock rear.
