31 Cowl differences

The 2 attached pictures show an indentation for the hood hinge.
I'm looking for a clear closeup shot of the same spot with a "dimple" in the centre of the indentation.
*pic#1 the bare metal piece, is evenly pressed & smooth
...while pic#2 the primered cowl, faintly shows that dimple.

I believe this dimple appeared sometime in early 31? ...but not sure.

Please stay with me while I explain this weird request...:o

1) my April 31 cowl came with the dimples in the indentation
2) while doing welding & extensive repairs I decided to hammer & dolly the indentations to a smooth form (like pic#1) because I thought the dimples where just some previous damage ...like someone prying against the metal.
3) now I've noticed the dimpled indentation in other 1931 Model A photos and realize I've really messed up!
Unfortunately I didn't take a close picture before destroying mine and now I'm ready to weld in the firewall except the dimples have to be re-made first.
4) if anybody can post or send me some closeup pictures of a "dimpled indentation" I would be eternally gratefull because the area in question is at eye level and I need to get it right.
Thanks in advance if you can help...Craig.

Is it possible the "dimpled dip" (far lower left) might have been a characteristic of only 1931 Model A's?

I've never seen it on 1930 Model A's......

Here are a couple pics from my early '31. The tape measure is going from the top of the splash panel.

*The spot I'm referring to is at 21 1\2" and 1" fwd of the cowl band. The outwards dimple appears to be there but hard to see enough detail... perhaps because of the colour and shadows. Great idea using the tape measure!
Interesting enough yours is a 31 which holds with my findings so far.
I sure appreciate your efforts and hopefully I'll find a clear enough photo so that the dimple can be duplicated.
Thanks again!!

Got a few hrs in today welding & grinding on the firewall.
Still hopefull someone will post some pics of their 30-31 hood indentation.:)

Craig,

Just looked a my early 1930 coupe, and its looks like Woody's pictures. Yours look the same, except yours seem to have been beat up some. I took a picture and if you need it I'll get it off of the phone later.

You can look at Marco's later 1930 on his web site under engine compartment and see the same thing as mine, I believe. So not just a 31 featrue.

I'm sensing you don't follow what the feature is that I'm looking for. No problem.
On the vague chance anyone is still following this dead boring thread, let me try again.
1) My first picture showed a smooth, pie-shaped indentation indicated with 2 arrows & an X.
2) My second 2 pictures show a similiar smooth, pie-shaped indentation except with the centre pressed outwards in a rounded dimple.
3) It's unlikely (I think) that these are just "beat up abit" because one is a factory archive pic of a new car. Also the indents I hammered out of mine were shaped very alike.
4) Marco's 30 roadster picture shows a smooth indent.
5) Woodie's photo would show better from a close angle with no flash and less light (we need a shadow to show the dimple) which I believe is there if I squint hard enough.
This is the factory archive pic again (from the judging stds) showing the dimpled indent.
bottom left ...1 inch in ...1 inch up.

Getting close but not enough detail for what I need to get done. Thanks for your efforts Bill and I just got the email.

:pYou heard about the boy walking a dog in the park?
A gentleman approaches and says "does your dog bite?"
Boy ... no.
Gentleman reaches to scratch dog & gets 3 fingers chewed up!
Gentleman yells ... "you said your dog doesn't bite"
Boy .... this isn't my dog.

I think what you need is for someone to make a clay impression for you. I'm still not getting what you're looking for... but I'm slow.. sometimes :)

I believe Craig wants a closeup of the metal where the screw enters, to see if it has a small raised area.
I have a spare 30 or 31 cowl, but can't get to it until more snow melts.

Duh, I thought my car was abnormal... Glad you started this thread Craig.

Nope. But there's a screw going through the cowl lacing exactly one inch fwd of the spot I keep describing.

Can you make out the question mark on this butchered 30 cowl section?
That's all I need a closeup picture of.

BINGO....thanks woody.
That indented area (left of the silver screw) has a raised dimple in the centre. Does everyone see it??
The dimple seems to appear on 31 cowls...yet not on 30 cowls.

I knocked out my dimples  and could sure use more closeup pix like this one so I can put em back.
Thanks again for anyone that can help.
