2MAE Crankshaft

Hi all,

I'm rebuilding a 1987 5.0 HO engine and had a question about the crankshaft. It's in really nice shape, with practically no wear. The engine came out of a Lincoln Mark VII, so I'm guessing it wasn't beat on.

My question is if the 2MAE is a good crankshaft to use at all. I've read on other sites that they're prone to breaking at the 1/5 journal because of how lighweight they are.

Considering that this one has almost no wear (caliper reading shows it at 2.248 for the crank journals and 2.123 for the rod journals) and also considering that I'm building the engine pretty much bone stock and back to original, do you guys think it's safe to reuse this crankshaft?

Thanks for any opinions. I'm trying to do the engine on a budget, so I'd like to avoid any extra costs. I have a 2M shaft from the 70's but it would have to be turned down.

Use it if it measures good with a mic. You won't break it with normal use, lots of fox body Mustangs with this crank have been supercharged without problems

That's good to hear. Yeah, I'm not planning on taking the engine out of the stock specs, and I personally don't really run my cars that hard. I'm guessing the broken ones are happening on high HP engines.

Thanks for the input.
