272 6 volt starter -R&R needed?

To the Ford: The cables are much larger than I thought and measured to 2/0 so that is all good. Did find the cable a little loose at the starter. Improved quit a bit but I plan to install the grounds that were recommended. I would think that will push it over the top.

Will let you know when I quit walking like gorilla man and can get back under the car.

Cheers,
George

I know this post has slept for a bit, but I thought it would be helpful to post my follow-up experience I had with the same issue ...

My '55 (w/ 6V) had sluggish starting (esp. when hot), and most cables were AWG 1 or less, and the block to firewall ground was a little 14 gauge wire. I replaced all cables to the battery, solenoid, and starter with 0 gauge wires. Also I put a 0 gauge ground from the block to firewall. When installing, I thoroughly cleaned all contact points, nuts, and washers, etc.

The end result was a huge improvement, starter turns quicker, no longer sluggish when hot, and it even seems the electrics (lights, ventilation fan) are all working a little brighter and better. :)

most of the time these problems are GROUNDING problems. I would put a ground cable from your battery and then BACK TO THE STARTER MOUNTING BOLT. I guarantee you will see a BIG difference with electric power.
