1939 ford pickup hood hinges

I am putting back together a 39 ford pickup, on it the hood hinges are triangle shaped with two bolt holes at the front and one at the back. At the front of the hinge is a right angle piece with a bolt hole thru it. Depending on which side of the pickup I put the hinges, the right angle piece can be at the top or the bottom of the hinge. Hopefully some one can follow this. Now presumely the side panel bolts straight on to this backet

Right angle piece goes to the bottom. The side panel bolts to it. If you have the hinges on backward, there will be a 4" gap between the back of the hood and the cowl. Ask me how I know. I managed to get the right side of the hood adjusted alright, but the left side or drivers side is about an inch and a half too high. I suspect that someone tried to close the hood without raising it first to release the support catch. I hope that I can stand on the side of the hood at the hinge area with a towel folded up on the cowl and under the hood to bend the hood down to fit better. Does anyone out there have any other ideas??

Thanks there is a gap between hood and cowl with hinges up the other way. With the right angle peice on the bottom it sits on the cowl alright but there is a gap between side panel and hood probably 1/4 inch on right and 1/2 inch on left, looks like I am going have a bit of work to get it aligned

I can't get mine to run, but I can show you a photo!!

Barry, If you can even out the gap on each side, that would probably be what Henry had to begin with.
