1938 Ford Standard Coupe questions

Dick,

Thanks for clearing that up.

Can you or anyone else identify this hood?

Thanks

It's a 38 Standard.

38 Deluxe has a "beak" like an Eagle at the front of the hood pointing down towards the ground.

37 Standard & Deluxe does not have that crease the length of the hood above the stainless trim running down both sides on the 38 Standard, also the 37 does not have that stainless trim down both sides.

Hard to see, but here's my 38 Standard...and, I like the Standard more than the Deluxe. I think the 38 Standard has an Art Deco look to the grille and side panels...

As I said...
If you are not building a period correct car then the fenders from a 37, 38 or 39 standard can be made to fit without tons of rework. Particularily when you consider that the running boards are the same. Obviously you need two (right and left) from the same model / type.
Note: I actually like the look of the 38 deluxe better. The look is not as "heavy" as the 38 standard. My 38 standard might have been an old bootlegger car. It had several non standard brackets in the trunk. g

May go without saying, but since you have one already, just make sure whatever you get for the left matches what's on the right.

To add a little more light to the subject, the 38 Ford Phaeton requires Deluxe fronts and Standard rears ( need to cut hole for right rear tail light). Measurements of the girth of the fender where it bolts to the body and the number of the bolt holes is a big help in identifying the fender. The 38 Deluxe and 39 Standard have greater girth and I think 1 more bolt hole than the 38 Standard. Check it out.

I certainly do appreciate all of the replies, it really helps.

I know I promised pics but Iv been getting home late and its been dark..Ill take pics of the coupe and post them tomorrow.

Hope this works!
Attached are two pictures, the blue one i believe to be a 1938 deluxe and the black a 1938 standard. Can someone confirm this or not.

Thanks Terry

The back of the fenders seem to be different!!

I just looked at my '38 deluxe; The space between the grill and the headlight looks like the black fender. My fender drops off sharply like the blue fender and has the "foot" that turns out toward the running board. The black fender doesn't appear to have this foot, so I can't say for sure what you have pictures of.

edit:The peak on the black fender intersects with the hood side about mid-way like mine, while the blue fender intersects toward the front. I don't think either of those are for a '38 deluxe.

Been Looking at pics on the 'net, I THINK the black fender is a '37. The back of the blue fender looks like a '38 deluxe, but unless there is an illusion in the pic, the front doesn't look right.

40cpe thanks
The black fender has a smooth transition to the running board and the blue one is not as smooth has a foot as you described so i think it is a 1938 deluxe and the black is a standard it is not a 1937 there is no bend on the fender i have a 37 fenders as well.
