1931 Ford Model A Pickup Deluxe

It's a beautiful truck, but it is NOT a DeLuxe. It is a gussied up mid 30 to early 31.The DeLuxe had a body all of it's own,not the regular pickup bed.Somebody used a pre-June of 30 gas tank in it,with the earlier instrument panel.I know the changeover for that was about June, and the trucks went from the square cab to the rounded cab about the same time.I don't know if any new cab trucks were produced with the earlier gas tank/panel or not.Radiator shells for the pickups had the solid tops too,not a separate panel like the cars. And,they were painted too,not stainless. It does have a 31 stainless emblem, not blue like the earlier ones.

'30 pickup with '31 splash aprons ; nice resto but with mixed year parts. '30 stainless shell shown in factory photos for late '31 so ok; no indented firewall, etc.

I posted a comment asking basically the same questions above. It is clearly not a 31 deluxe pickup. And that dash panel doesn't even fit that gas tank. If the owner spent $70K to restore that pickup to that, either the customer requested the non-authentic parts for their own aesthetic pleasure, or the restorer simply had no idea what is correct and what is not, and charged the customer WAY too much for their opportunity to get some Model A assembly training.

The 66-A Deluxe Pickup was made in 1931 only. Its most outstanding features are the bed is connected to the cab, and the sides of the bed have chrome rails like a hearse. I have read that less than 30 66-A's have survived, so it is an extremely rared Model A.

It's a bitsa truck. Bits of this and bits of that. Not uncommon for a driver vehicle. If someone who knows little about model A vehicles purchases it and tries to show it as a 1931 Deluxe then they will find out pretty quick that it was misrepresented. It the buyer knew what it was but just wanted a nice shiny model A commercial pickup then that's what they got.

Hope the bidders did homework. This is a short bed '30, std. withered cosmetic upgrades, etc. The factory photos show 1931 trucks with '30 black painted steel shells , possibly with the exception of the 66 A real deluxe '31 with the blended bed sides and chrome rails, etc. Anyone buying an A should study the Ford Service Bulletins and many books with factory photos and info to check authenticity.
Rotor wrench and the other posters are spot on.

The 1931 Deluxe started out as an abbreviated version of the Service Car for General Electric but other companies and individuals noticed them and ordered some as well. It was enough to sell 293 units so it is pretty rare indeed. They made them in the early 31 cab versions and the later steel top cab versions so I imagine the steel top versions would be highly sought after for collectors.

Did you mean chrome rails like a fire truck?:D

The 66A was also built by GAZ in Russia units not known . There is an archive picture of one wrecked at a WW2 roadside . Over the years some have popped up for sale in Eastern Europe .

That is how I decked out my 31 pickup. Not original, just a std pickup with a sedan accessories. It could easily be changed back to original except for having to weld the cowl light holes shut. i like my pickup with the bling, but don't feel it is worth close to what that one sold for. I also added WW tires.

Yeah, I believe this may be the photo that he is thinking of showing the destroyed Russian GAZ-4 (in the city of Minsk) with the prisoners marching in back:

This is a USA Ford 66-A Deluxe Pickup. Note that the box connects to the sides of the cab & the hand rails are chrome plated.
