I have been searching for a current paint formula that recreates the "Ford Maroon" used on Model A Fords when they were produced.
In addition to the Model A Paint and Finish Guide, I have access to a high quality 2.5" x 4.5" paint chip that has printed from the factory on the back of the chip "Ford Maroon." With these two resources, I have what I believe are reasonable points of reference.
Thus far the current "Ford Maroon" formulas that those involved in the restoration of my car and I have found have produced spray outs that are too brown, too red, too light and too violet. We seem to be hitting all around Ford Maroon......but have thus far not nailed.
I understand that it is possible to create the exact color that I am seeking. The trouble is, taking this approach makes it very difficult to create more than one gallon of paint.
If you happen to know of a current formula or source of Ford Maroon paint that you believe closely results in a color which matches that which was originally used on Model A Fords, I welcome your input.
Thanks in advance for any assistance that you might be able to provide.
I realize this is an old thread. But here is my Victoria in Ford maroon. At night it looks black and in bright sunshine it looks almost brown. It is not metallic and is more of the “rich” color described above. I don’t have the formula that was used but had it scanned at a supply shop and they mixed a quart for touch up.
