1930 Delima

If you had that left hand lever all the way up it was running retarded spark and bound to heat up on the road. Pull the lever almost all the way down then check your water temp.

You are running it with spark in the wrong position. Check your timing, get that right, then drive it with your spark rod at about 9:00. Then let us know if it still seems too hot.

Ya know I just had it idling in front of the garage after I hooked everything up today . Doin that , with the left lever all the way up , is how it ran the best . I wanted to see what it was gonna do before I took it out . Maybe I shoulda driven it .

as mentioned setting your timing properly is one of the first steps to solving your problem;;;;
and welcome to the barn

ok , Ill read up on how to do that . Ive got a dwell meter & a timing light , but I dont think that will work on this car . Thanks

They sound nice when the spark is fully retarded, but at driving speeds that will soon destroy your engine with overheating. Pull it down and take it out for a half hour and see how it does.

I actually had the spark advance all the way up . It seemed to run better that way . Ill try it down . It just seems weird to me . I guess I will get a thermometer , but it was running hot . I remember my Grandpa tellin us he used to have an A , & could fix just about anything on it with a pair of pliers , a monkey wrench & bailing wire . Maybe not I think now . Maybe he was pullin our leg . Ok ,thanks for the info on the bulletin . I will get one .

Number one! Go to any vendor and get a Model A owners manual. It will tell you all the controls and how they work.

Here is an online copy;
