1928 Phaeton - First trip

Those cars with the steering on the "wrong side" of the car certainly do come in handy when driving on the "wrong side of the road" !

Thanks for sharing the English countryside with us.

Wonderful and thanks for sharing! I would guess that a Model A is about perfect for driving in England......beautiful countryside, narrow, winding roads....enjoy it!

And there was me thinking it was you guys who drive on the wrong side!! Being serious though, we do have a number of LHD Model As over here - as one guy advised me when I was looking "it doesn't matter what side the steering wheel is, what are you going to be overtaking?" Glad you liked the video though.

Just wondered what inspection was required and who did it .Was this for the DVLA or insurance quote ? . Over the years I have imported a few As in from AZ USA and never required any inspection although a current valid USA title was in my name. USA shippers require a title before shipping .

Interesting radiator cap, Motometer wings without the Motometer
Ah yes. That is because the Motometer seems to have been snapped off at some point. I'm guessing it happened in transit because pre-shipment pictures show it. I'm hoping for a new one for Christmas...

It was done by a company called SGS, on behalf of the DVLA. It seems, from the research I did when DVLA wrote to say they wanted an inspection, that they do this as a random spot-check now. The guy who came out literally took a picture of the engine number, the odometer reading and a couple of the car and then he went. He was here for all of 5 minutes. 2 weeks later the v5 came through.

Kent has been windy too today, but probably not as bad as Suffolk!

A random spot check, I suppose that makes sense, seems quite rare as I had not heard of anyone having had to have it done on an import before. Maybe it is a new thing . I too have a 1928 (bodied) pheaton RHD ,the 1930 running gear is English, Manchester plant and the body is from Montevideo Uruguay so she is called "Maria".Pheatons are the best, mine has the small bore English engine ,multi disc clutch and the 4.55 rear end ,ideal for English country lanes as you can stay in high gear down to nearly walking pace . Cruises at a steady 35 MPH instead of 45 MPH in my big bore pickup .

John in the wind has eased Suffolk County England .

Looks like a great place to drive a "A" . Not to much traffic, but what's with all of the cars parked along the side of the narrow roads!!

Nowhere else to put them! It is a bit of a pain because there's only enough room for one car and people don't check properly before they pull out to pass them. There is a bit of footage which was edited out where exactly that happened. We were creeping past the parked cars and some guy came the other way without looking properly. He had to reverse...
