I have installed a 1990 ford ranger rear end in my 50 ford custom. Does anyone know of a conversion u joint that will work with the ranger rear and the stock 50 drive shaft?

Can anyone tell me where to buy spring perches for the Ranger rear end I'm installing in my 50 ford custom.

I'm not changing it out for fun. It's shot. As for a lot of work I took it out in about 3 hours today.

The car is a stock 239 flathead. So with that said what should the rear end angle be taking into consideration the trans is at 4 deg.

If they should be the same then I'll shoot for 4deg.

Ok so I checked pinion angle found trans 4 deg down, rear end 1 deg down. I think this is known as broke back pinion angle designed into the 50. Seems like a good time to fix this. I think I'll shoot for 2 to 3 deg up on the rear end.

Update on Violent Shake. It's fixed. I'd like to thank Dick Mortieay. He helped me figure out that I had a Mis matched group of parts. The car is a 1950 ford custom. Turns out it has a later modle Merc cast bell housing. It did have the 50 ford throughout bearing. The bearing did not fit...

I am in agreement with alchemy. Seem like correcting the brokeback pinion angle could not hurt.

So I sent my clutch parts to Fort Wayne Clutch today. A gentleman named Lou is going to check them out. Lou ask me to send the new parts I bought from Shoebox Central. I'll but anything he says is not useable or rebuildable.

I haven't changed the rear end. A guy just doesn't know what has been done by others in the past.

I don't know the history of the engine. It does run pretty good. Starts with no hesitation. The clutch wasn't oil soaked. I had the flywheel resurfaced. Earlier in this thread I mentioned pinion angle. Do you think that could cause a shake?

Yes I had a new pilot bearing installed by the machine shop.

The free play is set to 1 1/4.

Yes the problem was the reason for changing the clutch parts. Turns out the clutch was not the problem.

I was just thinking us it possible pinion angle could cause this?

It happens just as the clutch engages the flywheel.
