'53 Customline - Diff Gear Swap

An update on my efforts to swap out the 3.22:1 gear set. I have now been provided with another diff centre which had as original fitment a 3.22:1 gear set. The major difference with the housing is that there is an extra rib just above the filler plug. The interior has greater space for that...

'53 Customline - Diff Gear Swap

Generally speaking I think you can define early v late as Flathead powered v OHV powered however the use of an auto trans also determines the ratio used so the line between the two categories is a bit blurry.

'53 Customline - Diff Gear Swap

After some closer examination of casting shown in the original post I had a look at another complete unit to ascertain if there was any difference. This unit has a 41/11 (3.73) gear set. Looking inside where my pinion is fouling I can see the casting is different and provides a relief in the...

'53 Customline - Diff Gear Swap

I have a Ford style differential that was equipped with a 39/10 gear set. (3.9:1) I am attempting to fit a later gear set that is 29/9 (3.22:1 ) to this early housing. I have discovered it does not fit and requires some relieving to get it to fit. Clearly, there are different castings for...

    53 Customline Steering Colums Bracket

I am piecing together a 53 Customline and am curious about the steering column bracket. This is an Australian delivered car. In the picture you see a gap on the RH side. Why is this present? Is there something that fits into that space? [/IMG]

    '53 Customline Clutch Push Rods

I am going through the clutch pushrods on a '53 Customline. The bolts are stepped and use wave washers. The hole that the bolts are inserted into are "D" shaped. It all looks a bit odd. Is there meant to be a bush of some kind that goes into these rods? [/IMG]

    Firewall Mounted Brake Booster

Has anyone out there done this to a 52-53 Ford Customline? I am looking to fit one from a 1980's Ford Falcon (Australian) , similar to a Granada. I am fitting the Disc brakes to the front from this model Falcon so curious to know what others have done and how they went about it.

    '53-54 Customline RHD steering box

As the title to this thread suggests I am working on an Australian delivered 54 Ford Customline steering box. The model in Australia is a carry over from '53 in that they still ran a flathead engine and also ran the king pin front suspension. This steering box suits such a model. The box has...

    Spark Plug Wire Holders

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I don't have a factory Manual. Those pictures on that link 19Fordy do give a good indication of how they routed the wires. That basically reflects what I observed on the old engine I salvaged these from. These holders when removed were bent at odd angles...

    Flathead Resurrection Take 2

Well after the start up of the flathead about a month ago I discovered that the LH head had cracked on installation. An old repair had failed. That head was discarded and a replacement prepared and fitted . Today was the first fire up with the new head. All good . No more water leaks and with...

    Spark Plug Wire Holders

I plan to use the original spark plug wire holders on the 8BA I am building. The engine I salvaged them from had all of the Left hand side (5-8) wires routed through both holders and all of the Right hand side loose. Does anyone have any pictures of the original layout ?

Ford 94/ Holley 94 Power Valves

I recently rebuilt a pair of these carbs. One of the kits I used I purchased some years ago. On opening up the kit and on closer inspection of the power valve it appears to be unsuitable for this style of carb. It appears to be suited to the later Holley 4160 type 4 barrel carbs with the...
