53 Customline Steering Colums Bracket

I am piecing together a 53 Customline and am curious about the steering column bracket. This is an Australian delivered car.

In the picture you see a gap on the RH side.

Why is this present?

Is there something that fits into that space?

Hard to tell with that photo, but does that stud on the right pass through that gap? If so, then it's a good design that will grip the sleeve as the nuts on the dash are tightened. If it doesn't pass through, then it might have been cut. Is it pot metal?

That is Ford's design. The split allows the steering column to be slid through the bracket. Once everything is in position (steering box bolted to frame, bracket loosely attached to dash, etc.) the bracket to dash fasteners are tightened and lock everything together.
