This has been drafted awhile ( never posted ) this thread seems a good of place as any to place to tack it on to.
I puchased my Offy 400 heads , stud set , hardened washers, & nuts in 2018 from Speedway Motors . Around 6 months ago I started to hang it all together , it turned out the studs...
Went for a drive up in the hills , old mining towns , chasing 97 carbies or throttle bodies ( more on that in the coming days) photos shows some of the stuff uncovered.
Photos in the order listed

Regards post 17, new carbs but will check adjustment screws, the engine starts well, idles around 450 rpm or lower with adjustment screws seated , rich , popping slightly, not smooth
regards post 18, please refer post 3
The rear carb checks out ok , I had managed to get fuel pressure down to approx. 3 PSI. but made up the indicaters as a means to confirm whats going on . Also mentioned gravity feed on the fuel , the problem still existed.
There comes a time when you realise that self help is just not gonna cut it, that time is here. With regards to my failure to overcome a rich idle with my 1940 Merc engine rebuild there are a couple of options, go cap in hand to Mr Stromberg Support or throw it at the Barn door and see what you...
That makes interesting reading Jim, as a stand engine it is not going to get a lot of hours, with the distributor on a test bedI can get a healthy looking spark to jump abpout 5/8", back on the engine by the time it gets to the spark plug I can hardly see it. I have a really rich idle with...
Hey, how about that , fired up first thing this morning ( looks like it just needs a good rest overnight ) .
Regards retro fitting with points and condenser I meant stripping out the electronic crap from the distributor and mounting the points plate and 8 lobe shaft into the Mallory ( all...
I was just about to start a thread regards fuel problems I am having but this ignition issue pushed in. I am running a Mallory 3 bolt Breakerless distributor ( near new ) which uses a 609 module the problem being every so often the output goes AWOL for 1/2 a day or so ( no negative signal to...
Gee Ronnie,
Read over your reply a few times seems like you are still down in the valley with pins, feeler gages and spanners . That was what I was trying to avoid. Isn`t the varying depths of the valve seat pockets going to also have a bearing on your preset lifter lengths
When I first starting to look at adjusting the lifters in the block ( assembly stage ) I thought there must be a better way. I could handle drilling the lifter bosses for the pin but with solid lifters I imagined a problem with the pin getting forced out with the shape of the lifter depression...
This thread kinda meandered away from the original theme which
basically asked if anyone had any opinions of mixing and matching lifters. ( using 12 Speedway solid adjustables and 4 of N series Ford tractor solid adjustables ) photo shows the two side by side
The reason I asked about the years and if original equipment is that in Rodger Huntington`s early 50`s book he states that Ford never offered adjustable lifters for the flathead V8 but it appears that they were available in the tractors of the era and as far as I can see were...
